March 2016 – The low snowfall totals this winter were good news for Mansfield’s municipal snow removal budget. But the lack of snow was bad news for anyone who enjoys a break from seeing the litter that has piled up along our roadsides. Now, with the first warm days of spring here, civic-minded residents and business owners in Mansfield are gearing up for the 9th annual Great American Cleanup of Mansfield.

This year’s cleanup will be held on Saturday, April 30 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., rain or shine, followed by a celebration lunch for volunteers at the Xfinity Center. At last year’s cleanup, nearly 600 volunteers, including groups from the boy scouts, girl scouts, local churches, community groups, and businesses, removed litter from roadsides, parks, and school grounds.

“While the overall amount of litter in Mansfield has declined over the past few years, there is still plenty that needs to get cleaned up,” said Nancy Wall, executive director of Keep Mansfield Beautiful. “We’re counting on Mansfield residents, businesses, and community groups to once again step up and help us out on April 30.”

The deadline for registering for this year’s Great American Cleanup of Mansfield is April 15. The first 400 people to register will receive free tee shirts. Volunteers can register at http://bit.ly/1LS5tnE.

To cover the expense of running the annual cleanup, Keep Mansfield Beautiful is also seeking financial donations from local businesses and residents.

Mansfield’s event is part of a nationwide cleanup effort led by Keep America Beautiful, the nation’s largest community improvement program. Locally, North Attleboro, Easton, and Foxborough are also planning litter cleanup events this spring.
